About This Course

Embedded System Engineering focuses on the design and implementation of dedicated computing systems that integrate hardware and software to program PIC microcontrollers.

Targeted skills

The Embedded Systems course is intended for fourth-year engineering cycle students in the first semester, specializing in Automatic and Intelligent Systems. The course program is a continuation of the Microprocessor module studied in previous years. It aims to deepen students' knowledge in embedded systems, including microcontroller architecture, embedded programming, hardware and software interfacing, and real-time application design.

Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
-     Understand the architecture and operation of PIC microcontrollers.
-      Interpret datasheets and hardware schematics of embedded systems.
-      Configure and program digital input/output peripherals using low-level
       programming.
-      Analyze and implement different applications
-      Evaluate embedded system projects.

Prerequisites

  • Basic knowledge of computer architecture, including memory organization, registers, and instruction execution
  • Ability to understand and analyze CPU architecture and its operation
  • Familiarity with interfacing a microprocessor with external components such as RAM, ROM, and EEPROM

Teaching staff

This course is taught by Dr. HALLEDJ Salah Eddine, a teacher-researcher specializing in Control Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Automatic Control and Systems from the Polytechnic School of Constantine. His research interests include control systems, embedded systems, and intelligent automation applications. He worked for two years as a Research Engineer Consultant at the Research Center in Industrial Technologies (CRTI), where he was involved in the design and control of ground robots for agricultural applications. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Béjaïa, where he focuses on teaching several courses in embedded systems and control theory. In addition to his teaching activities, he contributes to research and the supervision of engineering students, promoting the development of practical and theoretical skills in modern control field.
