#About this course

This course introduces the modeling, analysis, and design of continuous-time linear control systems. Students learn how to represent dynamic systems using differential equations and transfer functions, analyze system stability and performance, and design controllers that meet specified requirements. The course combines theoretical concepts with practical applications in engineering systems such as electrical circuits, mechanical systems, robotics, aerospace, and industrial process control.

  • Model continuous-time dynamic systems.
  • Derive transfer functions from differential equations.
  • Analyze system behavior in the time and frequency domains.
  • Evaluate system stability using various stability criteria.
  • Design feedback control systems.
  • Use root locus, Bode plots, and Nyquist plots.
  • Analyze steady-state and transient responses.
  • Design PID and lead-lag compensators.
  • Use simulation software (such as MATLAB/Simulink) for system analysis and controller design.

Students are expected to have knowledge of:

  • Calculus (differential and integral calculus)
  • Ordinary differential equations
  • Linear algebra
  • Basic physics
  • Basic electrical or mechanical engineering concepts
  • Laplace transforms
  • Introductory signals and systems (recommended)

#Requirements

To successfully complete the course, students should have:

  • A scientific calculator.
  • Access to MATLAB/Simulink (or equivalent control system software, if required).
  • Ability to solve mathematical problems involving matrices and differential equations.
  • Familiarity with basic programming (optional but beneficial).
